Catherine Lawson, Photography by: The Fitzroy flows east to the sea near Rockhampton, the Murray-Darling system heads south to the distant sea near Adelaide, while the legendary Barcoo joins the Thomson to become Cooper Creek before emptying into Lake Eyre. The sources of it all are the unassuming, flower-fringed springs we discover flowing over fractured granite sands in Salvator Rosa, a part of the immensely popular Carnarvon National Park, which demands just a little more determination to reach.

Every big city in the world was faced with that problem. He felt sure that in Brisbane in the very near future they would have to take some action with a view to finding some better system of parking motor cars.
To-day their main streets were reduced to half their width owing to the lack of a parking system. Every large building that went up in the thickly populated parts of the city made matters worse. An important phase of the provision of car parking would be the selection of sites.

Monthly data for employment and unemployment are adjusted for seasonality using the X software package of the US Census Bureau.

Filed under Pagadian City The Philippines, being a country archipelago of islands and seas, have naturally wonderful beaches, some of which are famous the world over. Beaches like Puerto Galera, Boracay, and the various beaches in Cebu rake in tourists from around the world all year round because of their pristine and cool blue waters and fine, white-sand shores.
However, if one will just look around more, they will find that there are other less-known but equally beautiful beach spots in other parts of the Philippines. In Pagadian, in particular, there are beaches and islands that will make one believe that there is such a thing as a secluded paradise on Earth. A nice place to start would be the Dao-Dao Islands some seven to ten minutes away from the seaport, when riding a motorboat.

Mitchell is named after renowned explorer Major Thomas Mitchell, who passed through the area in June During this his fourth expedition he set up camp to the north of Mitchell by what he noted as a ‘fine river’ naming it the Maranoa River. No visit to Mitchell would be complete without a soak in the thermal mineralized waters of the Great Artesian Spa. North of Mitchell visitors can enjoy superb vistas and explore the magnificent sandstone formations of the Mt Moffatt section of the Carnarvon National Park.
The people of Mitchell are proud of their cultural heritage and welcome the opportunity to share it with visitors. Steeped in history, the Mitchell community is keen to preserve the treasures and lessons from the past and have created a range of heritage and cultural displays covering its local Indigenous cultural heritage, early explorers, bushranging past, and social history.

Ilfracombe, QLD Small town once the centre of huge sheep grazing stations Today Ilfracombe is a tiny settlement on the vast flat plains of western Queensland with a single hotel, a cafe, a few houses and a remarkable “Great Machinery Mile” museum which stretches the length of the town. It is hard to imagine that there was a heyday, back in the s, when the town had three hotels each with its own dance hall, a soft drink maker, a coach builder, two general stores, a billiard saloon, a dressmaker, three commission agents, a couple of butchers, a baker and a saddler.
The huge properties which once characterised the area have been broken up into smaller units. Despite the changes Ilfracombe still survives as a service centre to the surrounding sheep and cattle stations although, with Longreach only 27 km away, its importance as a rural centre has waned. It is 27 km east of Longreach, on the Matilda Highway, and m above sea level. When the railway arrived in it was decided to rename the settlement Ilfracombe, after the town in Devon, England.
It provides a timeline of the events which shaped the area around Ilfracombe with its displays including an old police lock-up used between and , a meat house, the old manual post office exchange, a machinery shed with steam engines, tractors including a Ruston Proctor Tractor , wool balers, pumps, graders, trucks, drays, buggies, a million year-old petrified palm, unusual natural limestone rocks with a remarkably rounded form and other interesting memorabilia.
There is the Steam Devil a huge excavator driven by three horse powered steam engines, which runs along one railway line. Made in and sold in , it is the only remaining. There’s also a 12 tonne Stuart Tank that has been converted into a dozer, the first series grader made by Caterpillar in , an early Lacre Light Truck and a Republic Truck. One of the old wagons on display was drawn by up to 30 horses and capable of carting bales of wool weighing 15 to 20 tons to coastal ports including Bowen or Rockhampton.
A trek which could take three months. There is also ‘Oakhampton’, a cottage which was once part of the ‘Lyndon’ estate.

Dinosaur Cove, Victoria Click image for enlargement Dinosaur Cove is located in the south-east of the Australian continent, where the Otway ranges meet the sea to the west of Cape Otway, along the Great Ocean road. The fossil bearing rock layers consist of sand-, silt- and mudstones that have been dated to around million years ago MYA. Because of the hardness of the rock, heavy mining equipment and dynamite was required to uncover the rock layers that contained fossils.
Since the layers of rock that contained the fossils formed part of a cliff, fossil remains had to be excavated by tunneling into the cliff face, requiring the specialized knowledge of miners and explosives experts who volunteered their time and services. One of the dinosaur species recovered from the site, Atlascopcosaurus loadsi a hypsilophodontid dinosaur , was named after the mining company that donated some of the equipment, Atlas Copco, and after Mr William Loads, a former employee of the company.
There are three fossil beds that have been worked at Dinosaur Cove: All of them are virtually inaccessable without either climbing down dangerous cliffs or landing a boat or helicopter on the rock platforms during low tide. None of the sites are currently being worked. During the Early Cretaceous the area around Dinosaur Cove was a flood plain within a great rift valley that formed as Australia tore northward from Antarctica.
Sand, mud and silt was deposited by streams and rivers, covering the remains of dead animals and plants and eventually preserving some of them. The deposits were buried by up to three kilometres as the rift valley sank, turning the sediments into rock. In the last 30 million years the sediments have been uplifted to form the Otway and Strzeleki ranges, bringing them to the surface again.
